Bakery Square is soliciting qualifications from artists or artist teams, to provide artwork incorporated into/onto the façade of Galley – Bakery Square, at 6425 Penn Ave, on its campus in the Larimer neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. This opportunity is for an artist who can work with the Walnut Capital/Bakery Square, Larimer Consensus Group, and in a residency with Lincoln Elementary and The Urban Academy of Greater Pittsburgh, to create an original public artwork for the Square. The artwork will be on display from 6-12 months onsite, and will remain property of Bakery Square thereafter–eventually relocated to another property owned by the group. A contract will confirm that the artist retains copyright, and set forth all other relevant concerns. Artists will be selected by portfolio—no proposals are required or accepted.
Artists may utilize any types of media that can be feasibly realized within or upon the façade of the building, and within the allocated budget for the project. Local artists and artists identifying as BIPOC are strongly encouraged to apply: Any artist/team of artists with a connection to the Pittsburgh area is eligible. A committee composed of Bakery Square staff, Larimer Consensus Group members, and local art experts will choose an individual or team to contract for design and production of an artwork in Early 2023.
