In Conversation at Allegheny Landing featuring Charles Rosenblum, Alice Snyder, and Alex Taylor

Pittsburgh, PA The Office for Public Art (OPA), in collaboration with Riverlife, will be hosting In Conversation at Allegheny Landing, Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. This event is free and open to the public; advanced registration is encouraged as breakfast refreshments will be served. Registration information can be found here: https://opapgh.org/event/in-conversation-at-allegheny-landing/.

In Conversation at Allegheny Landing will explore the public art and civic design legacy of this unique riverfront park. The event will feature a tour of Allegheny Landing and its sculpture park, along with a moderated conversation between architectural historian Charles Rosenblum, art consultant Alice Snyder, and art historian Alex Taylor. Snyder was the lead consultant for the commissioning of four artworks sited at Allegheny Landing’s sculpture park in the 1980s. Rosenblum’s, Snyder’s, and Taylor’s conversation will focus on the history, development, and future of the park and its sculptures. A light breakfast will be served.

“For the past two years, the Pittsburgh Creative Corps has been engaging artists to activate outdoor public spaces and reconnect communities with the fabric of the city,” said OPA program manager, Rachel Klipa. “Hosting In Conversation at Allegheny Landing grew out of a summer of artist-led activations created by the Corps on the North Shore and the desire to highlight the rich story of labor and industry that formed the basis of the park’s original design. The conversation will be a dialogue about the role and legacy of public art and civic design in Pittsburgh and help us to think about the future of this significant site.”

The Pittsburgh Creative Corps was initiated by OPA and Riverlife as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the desire to reconnect the people of the region to its civic life and public spaces. In addition to producing the Movement Series at Allegheny Landing, the 2022 Corps has produced Rumbón de la Calle by artist Christiane Dolores; Conflux by artists Heidi Wiren Bartlett and Celeste Neuhaus; a three-part Walk and Write series with author Sherrie Flick; and two pop-up exhibitions, Dream of a Black Planet by artist Shori Sims, and Literally So Hot by artist Rosabel Rosalind.
