About the Artist
I am an artist, designer, fabricator, and educator who is originally from Grand Rapids, MI and calls Pittsburgh home. I earned a Master’s of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as a Master of Advanced Architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, and I taught and practiced architecture and design around the world, including in Chicago, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Pittsburgh.
My work consists of ceramic blocks and three-dimensional tiles that are designed by writing digital code, fabricated on custom 3D printers I build, and then hand glazed and kiln-fired. The final result is similar to traditional ceramics in that it is durable and easy to maintain. I embrace abstraction and pattern as a way of deconstructing the world around us and I also explore the interaction light, considering how the transition from day to night impacts the context of a piece.
I have exhibited work across the world, including the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics in Taiwan, and have also completed commissioned projects, including works funded by the NEA and the Carnegie Museum of Art. My work is widely publicized and has received several prestigious awards, including an R+D Award from Architect magazine in 2014 for 3D printed ceramics.

“Throughout my career, my work has been inherently collaborative. My public artworks always involve working directly with community partners and various stakeholders to incorporate their ideas and suggestions into my designs. I welcome input from experts and those that will be impacted by the work that I develop.”
