About the Artist

Celeste NeuhausCeleste Neuhaus is a witch who fuses art and magic through imagery, objects, performances, and guided rituals. To support healing from the damaging effects of intersecting social systems of oppression, she offers experiences that playfully reveal the often-unconscious interdependencies between the bodily, psychological, cultural, political, ecological, and cosmological.

Living with chronic illness has fueled Celeste’s research into a spectrum of healing modalities, which continues to shape the form of her art practice. In 2019 she started her own business, Conjure Creativity, to empower people through one-on-one sessions, to align with the cycles of their unique creativity.

Celeste currently lives and works in Pittsburgh, PA. She received her BFA at the University of Illinois (Chicago, IL). While earning her MFA at the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM), she was a selected artist in the Land Arts Program of the American West, with a focus on Art and Ecology.

For over 15 years Celeste worked as an independent art educator (with students ranging from toddlers to elders). From 2015-2018 she taught in the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University.

Celeste has been a visiting artist at Eastern Carolina University (Greenville, NC) and Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University (Indianapolis, IN). She has been an artist-in-residence at The Studio for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA); Small Mall, formerly a part of Casey Droege Cultural Productions (CDCP); Harold Arts Residency (Chesterhill, OH); and ACRE (Steuben, WI).

Her work has been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum of Art, The Mattress Factory, SPACE Gallery (Pittsburgh, PA), White Page Gallery (Minneapolis, MN), Indiana University (Indianapolis, IN), Sanitary Tortilla Factory (Albuquerque, NM), Comfort Station (Chicago, IL), School of Visual Art (New York, NY), and P.A.A.J. (Los Angeles, CA).

Pittsburgh Creative Corps

Designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Creative Corps initiative engages artists and creative workers to activate the public realm while providing economic opportunity.

“It is vital to me that my work generates experiences that offer healing. One way I do this is by creating art experiences in nature. Being in the PCC has enabled me to build new relationships with organizations that center ecology, an issue essential to my work.”
