About the Artist

Danny BrackenDanny Bracken is a multidisciplinary artist working in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His creative practice explores the impact of technological change and its effect on our perceptions, experiences, and connections to the people and places that surround us. The work examines the role of the physical in our progressively intangible existence and is an investigation of our idealism for the future, nostalgia for the past, and our increasingly conflicted present moment. These works often incorporate video, sound, and physical objects that range from public installations to small-scale sculptures and printed material to vinyl record releases. Born into a family of musicians, sound occupies a central role in the work, and takes the form of film scores, installations, and stand-alone recordings.

After completing a visual arts degree, Bracken joined the Chicago-based music collective Anathallo. The group toured extensively, performing hundreds of times throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. His sculptural and installation work has been included in numerous group and solo exhibitions in the US and Europe. Bracken has participated in residencies in Spain, China, Ireland, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the US. His musical collaborations with filmmakers have included commercial projects, award-winning documentaries, and network television sitcoms.

PROJECT

Pittsburgh Creative Corps

Designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Creative Corps initiative engages artists and creative workers to activate the public realm while providing economic opportunity.

“Working in the public sphere allows me to be in conversation with a wider audience and presents opportunities to think beyond the traditional white cube. Public art provides the chance to work in exciting contextual and responsive circumstances, and opens me up to unexpected encounters and discoveries.”
