About the Artist
Sophia Fang is a queer, Chinese-American watercolor and mixed media artist who builds vibrancy in Pittsburgh and Seattle. Blending vibrant swatches of color and complex details, her art combines whimsy and community joy to celebrate small business entrepreneurship, immigrant placemaking, and food diasporas.
Sophia is passionate about beautifying public spaces in her hometown and the Rust Belt. She has received dozens of public art commissions, including from the City of Pittsburgh, City of Redmond, City of Edmonds, City of Tukwila, City of Auburn, City of Shoreline, Spice Bridge, and Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation. Sophia is also a Commissioner on the Seattle Arts Commission, a Pittsburgh 30 Under 30, a Pittsburgh Foundation Emerging Artist Winner, and the winner of the 2021 ATHENA Young Professional Award for mentoring other women and girls to succeed.

Pittsburgh Creative Corps
Designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburgh Creative Corps initiative engages artists and creative workers to activate the public realm while providing economic opportunity.
“At its core, public art is the art of, by, and for the people, and I find joy in expressing what the community believes in and weaving community collaboration deeply into my projects. Through public art, I hope to contribute to community beautification and center our focus on important topics like immigrant placemaking.”
