Pittsburgh Creative Corps 2022 Projects & Activities

In 2022, new Corps programming for the Pittsburgh Creative Corps was launched, including the Summer Movement Series, FLOW: Rhythms on the Rivers, and the Pittsburgh Creative Corps Gallery housed in a retrofitted shipping container.

Another significant development toward the long-term sustainability of the Corps was the launch of the Pittsburgh Creative Corps Directory. This searchable online roster of Corps artists makes it possible for public agencies, private businesses, organizations, or individuals to independently seek artists for artwork commissions.

This series of in-person programs featured Write the Rivers tours led by Pittsburgh-based writer Sherrie Flick, and a musical performance series titled Rumbón de la Calle hosted by Pittsburgh Creative Corps artist-in-residence Madame Dolores (Christiane Leach).

Write the Rivers took participants on an exploration of city neighborhoods through creative writing. Tours were held in Hazelwood, the South Side, and the North Side.

Rumbón de la Calle was a series of musical performances that featured Pittsburgh-based, world-renowned percussionists and drummers of the African Diaspora emulating the community gatherings of their respective countries.

CONFLUX

This immersive art experience was led by Corps artists Celeste Neuhaus and Heidi Wiren Bartlett.

CONFLUX was a performance event aboard the Explorer Riverboat that led audiences on a journey through the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers. Participants explored the diverse ecosystem of Southwestern Pennsylvania while performers aboard the boat danced as personified plankton. As the boat returned, a River Siren sang on behalf of the land and water.
